Table Scraps (DINNER CONVERSATION ON WASTe and precarity) #1: Statiegeld Economy

Together with Dennis van Eck, who works with homeless people at Straat Consulaat and Pauluskerk, we will talk about statiegeld and how this recycling program becomes a source of income and sometimes a means of survival for those going through rough periods in their lives. We also look at dilemmas of formal and informal recycling work and honour ingenuity and resilience of people, whose daily efforts make possible a significant part of bottle deposit turnover.

In this dinner series we come together to cook and share a three-course meal made from saved food and to talk about subjects that are rarely addressed, such as intersections of waste and precarity. These two become entangled very often and form strong patterns that nevertheless remain invisible in public discourse. For each dinner we pick a different theme and invite speakers to contribute their stories and perspectives to collective conversation.

Come cook, eat, and talk with us!
