Summer School: Wastescapes

Join us for WASTESCAPES, a three-day, hands-on summer school (previously known as LAB) exploring waste infrastructures, postnatural ecologies and urban afterlives. Through workshops, lectures and collaborative research, we’ll think together about landfills, recycling plants, waste workers, pigeons, rats, and other urban cohabitants — and how waste invisibly shapes the way our cities look, feel, and function.

We’ll explore how so-called “natural” environments often turn out to be human-made disguises — spaces used to cover, bury or conceal urban waste. From landfills to rats, from utopian dreams to polluted realities–the summer school invites artists, researchers, activists, students, and curious minds to trace the dirty footprints of the city.
