Meewisse Meubels en dergelijke

At the corner of the Afrikaandermarkt, Maurice Meewisse opens a shop and workshop in one, titled Meewisse Meubels en dergelijke, to explore the relationship between reused materials and home improvement.

People are welcome to come with all their furniture questions, wishes, and issues — and the craftspeople from Meewisse Meubels en dergelijke will try to solve them on the spot. Whether you need a small side table, a rack to hang a shirt on, or a little platform, most things can be made swiftly and using discarded materials found on the street.

All materials used are sourced locally from the surrounding streets. Visitors are also invited to bring their own — especially if the materials are beautiful or hold personal significance.

On one of the festival days, Maurice will also lead a scavenging walk around the area to collect more materials for the shop and to explore the paradoxical questions and realities of waste and ownership on the city’s streets.
